SDF Nu. 1,200 per person per night (see below)

Border Town Waiver

Indian nationals residing in border towns adjacent to Bhutan (such as Jaigaon opposite Phuentsholing) benefit from a 24-hour open border waiver. They may cross freely at any time of day or night without a permit for short visits, and are not subject to the SDF for day visits. Overnight stays and travel beyond the border zone require the standard entry permit and SDF applies.

Visa questions answered

We recommend applying at least 3–4 weeks before your travel date. The official processing time is up to 5 working days, but applying earlier gives buffer for any document queries and allows us to confirm your accommodation and guide bookings.

You need a valid passport with at least 6 months validity beyond your travel dates, a recent passport-sized photo, and your confirmed travel itinerary. We will guide you through the exact requirements after booking.

Yes. Visa extensions can be applied for through the Department of Immigration in Thimphu. Your visa allows a maximum stay of 90 days from the date of entry. Extensions beyond 90 days are not typically granted for tourist visas.

The SDF is charged separately and is not included in oh! Bhutan's tour package prices. It is payable directly and is fully refundable if your trip is cancelled or shortened. We advise you on the total SDF amount for your trip at the time of booking.

Yes. A licensed Bhutanese guide is mandatory for all visitors at all times — including at monuments, dzongs and during treks. Independent travel without a guide is not permitted. All oh! Bhutan tours include a certified, English-speaking local guide.

Yes. Land entry is possible through Phuentsholing (from India), Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar for international visitors, and through all official border crossings for Indian nationals. Your visa clearance letter must be obtained before entering by land.

Indian nationals living in border towns immediately adjacent to Bhutan — such as Jaigaon (opposite Phuentsholing) — are granted a 24-hour open border waiver. This allows them to cross freely at any hour without a permit for short visits. However, this waiver applies only within the immediate border zone. Travel beyond the border area, overnight stays inside Bhutan, or visits to other dzongkhags all require the standard entry permit, and the SDF (Nu. 1,200 per night) applies for overnight stays.
