Today one of my guests got really upset because most hotels, restaurants, and shops here don't accept card or UPI payments. (I'm not saying all — but most of them.) They always have to carry cash, and since their notes are usually in ₹500 denominations, it becomes a hassle — shops often don't have enough change to give back.
To manage this, I've been collecting back change through MBOB transactions in my account and paying them back later.
I tried calming him down by explaining that these days most Bhutanese hardly carry cash anymore — only a few still do. Digital transactions have really taken off, and it's been working smoothly. So when we pay in cash at shops, sometimes they don't even have a single note in change to return.
I joked with him, saying, “If you pay by card, charges will be involved since it's an international transaction. By paying in cash, you're actually saving money.”
